The news anchor explained, “Eyewitnesses reported seeing the object getting impregnated in the ground. And it has substantially heated up the ground around it.”

“The neighborhood is advised extreme caution; the heat may burn houses,” declared fire department.

“It’s an alien missile silo; blast it before it blasts us” – was Sheriff’s version.

The mayor was hopeful, – “I’ve consulted the high priest, it’s a grain depot gifted by God.”

The entire town was out in the field in fear and awe looking across the city fences at the alien structure.

I stubbed the end of my cigarette in the ground and stood up watching the morning unfurl. Just before leaving I noticed commotion in the nearby anthill.

  1. I like the switch from macro to micro

  2. So I’m not the only one who saw it as an alien silo! As for those ants….!

  3. Hahah, this was great. What an original, fun idea.

  4. Cool perspective, slightly different.
    AnElephant likes that.

  5. Unique take on the prompt. Nicely done. Truly a gift from god for those ants.

  6. Sci-fi extraordinaire. That’s a beautiful last paragraph.

  7. Very interesting. I didn’t get the shift in perspective right away, but that made it all the better. Great job.

  8. They’re impregnating an object? That *is* hot!

  9. Ooo! I want to know what comes out of ant hill. Alien ants? Possessed ants? Lava?

  10. Lol, fantastic story! I loved the twist!

  11. Loved the different perspectives which gave us the information needed to know it is an alien silo. Loved then that you moved from this broad perspective to noticing that much activity was occurring at the ant hill and now I want to know more. Were the ants the aliens? Were the aliens taking over the ant nest? Or had the heat of the ground just stirred activity?

  12. Nice shift to show “the great chain of being” and how one event affects the other. Good job!

  13. Very creative and imaginative writing!

  14. I really like this! The different perspectives work really well. Good story. 🙂

  15. Ant vision is so bad that in actuality they can’t see silos other than blocking sunlight (if/when the sun is in that position in the sky)…but a creative take on the prompt nonetheless.

  16. Perspective is everything. Nicely done.

  17. Interesting take on the silo. Aliens and ants and all.

  18. Most entertaining. I love your twist at the end.

  19. Love it! All in the eye of the beholder!

  20. Dear Horus,

I’m late getting around. But I’m glad to catch up. Love the two perspectives in this. Very nice.
